Stephanie Kuse (she/her) is a media artist and graphic designer based in Saskatoon, SK.
Stephanie’s video art and projections utilize 3D-rendering, generative visual software, and real-time mixing to produce abstract visuals that blend organic form and movement with crisp digital elements featuring vibrant synthetic colors and lush textures. Taking inspiration from 70’s sci-fi illustration, early computer graphics and analogue processing techniques in addition to her go-to natural textures, Stephanie has produced highly-lauded media art projects in the form of projections for live performance, large scale animation-based installations and music videos in collaboration with musical artists from across North America and beyond – recent commissions include a video for iconic indie-rock group Nada Surf (New West Records) and tour projections for Seattle's La Luz (Sub Pop Records). She has performed live visuals as a duo with ambient electronic artist Matthew Cardinal (Arts & Crafts Records) as part of MUTEK Montreal 2021 along with a handful of performances throughout western Canada. In addition to frequent musical collaborations, she acts as the creative director and projection artist for HYPERART, an annual multidisciplinary micro-festival in the heart of St.Boniface in Winnipeg, MB.
As a graphic designer, Stephanie’s work combines her interest in the design stylings of vintage textbooks, collage, and digital art to produce memorable visual identities for musicians and arts organizations. Included in her many highlights are album artwork and packaging for Bay Area artist and acclaimed producer Maryam Qudus AKA Spacemoth (Wax Nine Records), and event posters for Frankie Cosmo’s performances presented by (((folkyeah!))) Events in Northern California. In addition to visual identity for several arts events including the aforementioned HYPERART, Stephanie contributed graphic design for the 2023 edition of Winterruption presented by The Regina Folk Festival and the 2019 edition of Nuit Blanche Saskatoon. She was recently commissioned by The National Arts Centre in Ottawa, ON to create a set of greeting cards which are to be distributed to the artists that perform at the Arts Centre.
Photography is also included in Stephanie’s practice, having designed and photographed the interactive photo booth installation for LUGO, the Remai Modern Art Gallery’s annual fundraiser in Saskatoon, SK, for several years running.
